I provide website and ezine publishers with the information they need and want – in the way they want it. I took the time to build relationships with them. And, most of all, I avoided these 10 ways to piss off publishers.
10 Ways to Piss Off Publishers and Not Get Your Articles Published…
1. Submitting articles without getting to know their website and their audience. The last thing a website or ezine editor/publisher wants to do is take time to read an article that sounded enticing to them – and then find out that the article does not match their style or tone. You have to take the time to get to know the website or ezine. Find out the information their readers are looking for – and see if your article is a good fit for them.
2. Not enough personalization – I’ll tell you right now “Dear Editor” tells editors that you’re spamming your article to thousands of places – and you don’t care where you are submitting too because you are only interested in building links. Personalize each query letter you write.
3 Not being respectful of their time – Most website and ezine publishers have businesses and clients to tend to. They do NOT spend a majority of the time waiting reviewing and publishing articles. This is something they do to give value to their clients and prospects. So, keep that in mind, when you try to submit an article that doesn’t match the website’s or publication’s needs. Or, when you write a long query letter. Or, when you fail to obey their editorial guidelines. Talking about following editorial guidelines – guess what the next way to piss off editors and publishers is.
4. Failing to read and follow their exact editorial guidelines — If you don’t follow these guidelines, your articles won’t get printed. Period. End of story. You must know these guidelines for each site!
5. Submitting articles with too many spelling and grammatical errors – Website and ezine editors have enough on their plates with their business. They don’t want to proofread and edit your articles – something that should be done before you even think about submitting your article.
6. Submitting articles that are not formatted for maximum readability – Again, editors do no want to do extra work that you should have taken the time to do. 7. Submitting articles that are not already optimized for the search engines – Don’t you want visibility for your articles don’t you? Well guess what? Website publishers want your articles to be found so there website can be found as well. And, again they don’t want to work at it. That means you need to submit SEO friendly articles with the keywords in the right places. 8. Not providing enough “real” content – When you submit to article directories like EzineArticles.com it is OK to submit 200-250 word articles. But that’s not enough beef for targeted websites. They want to see that you truly are a thought leader. So start creating 500-750 word articles. With my instant article writing templates at http://www.StartWritingArticlesFaster.com, you’ll be able to create these articles fast.
9. Submitting the same, old information – Top websites like About.com want to connect and associate themselves with thought leaders. That means they want new, original ideas and information. Or at least a unique twist to an older idea.
10. Failure to properly thank the editors and publishers and maintain relationships with them. By publishing your article on their website or in their ezine, these publishers and editors are giving you free access to their readership. So take two minutes out and send them a thank you note. At the same time, see if they’re interested in receiving more articles from you – and find out what topics they’re really interested in right now.
